    I'll be posting a review soon of why i have gone full circle back to sport touring bikes and bought a Ninja 1000SX. I have tried ADV style Moto's of all shapes, sizes, brands for almost 10 years now, and as someone who rides on the track a lot, i just craved that "connected" feeling that fully faired sport tourers provide. The ADV style Moto's make me feel like a sail in the wind. Too upright... less connected. But thats just me ...

    The biggest issue which you missed is servicing costs compared to the GS. Those 4 cylinder engines are ridiculously expensive to service and the reason I won't have another S1XR as a high mileage user as much as I love the performance.👍FB

    The addition of efi to this great design is completely ridiculous and against the character of the machine. Who wants a fuel pump on a lovely machine like this, and its over 200 quid to put it right.

    Another great review. There is a lot to like about this bike. For me the GS would be the one I would pick. At 64 the lower center of gravity is a +. The other thing I look for in a touring bike is the range. Most of the riders I know on 1 liter sport touring bikes start looking for a gas station at 150 miles. Having a 200+ range gives more choices when planning my trips. I live in the Western US, and I have done trips where you need at least 200 miles of range. That being said I would love to see how the XR compares to the new Suzuki GSX-1000GX+. They both have a similar style with a more upright sitting position.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer

    I love the styling of the machine, perfect for me being 6 foot 3 I just feel in proportion with the bike and also very comfortable. I ride a MT09 SP and love the immediate pull when you twist the throttle. Something this bike lacks when I test rode it. You need to properly wind it up before you feel the full power and the theatre of noise which is superb. The GS has the benefit of the torque and having immediate usable power when you need it and also it’s shaft driven which is better for touring.

  • @mariog4707
    @mariog4707 12 годин тому

    Just had a test ride on one of these and I agree totally with your review. I was both immensely impressed and disappointed at the same time. The comfort and ease of use when on the move was great but - the switch gear was a nightmare (and I own another Honda). I never did get the cruise control to work. The manual screen caught me out (I spend 20 mins with the switch gear trying to adjust it), but the biggest issue was the DCT. It worked a treat on duel carriageways and A roads but get it on twisty B roads and it was a nightmare. It kept getting bogged down and the engine became very rough trying to get moving with too few revs. A real Jekyll and Hyde machine.

    I've seen a few videos on this system. I think it's very clever and props to Honda for making bikes accessible to more people. The irony being that someone would still probably have to take their test on a normal clutched bike to get their licence before buying one of these, and if that's an issue, it's still an unfortunate hurdle. However, that aside I think it's a really ugly system, just bolted onto the side of the clutch case. It looks weird and non-symmetrical on the other side. Similar to the Harley Sportster S. On the right (leg) side you've got the pretty looking engine and exhaust and it's very nice, but on the left (leg) side, it's just electronics and looks horrible, and spoils the bike for me. Also. Just a thought. If it's not RBW, how does it rev-match blip on downshift?

  • @nothingtoseehere93
    @nothingtoseehere93 14 годин тому

    E-clutch seems like a way better option than DCT. I like shifting and clutching but sometimes it’s nice to not deal with it. I hope this comes to more bikes because I’m not a fan of Honda anymore… very boring bikes and no tech.

    I must say I miss the asymmetrical styling, it was their signature and made the bikes easily noticeable, even now with the new GS and its bland front light, could spot the old one a mile off. Ive passed a couple on the road now and coming at you you'd mistake it for a V-Strom 😅 the symmetrical fronts look like whales or fish which have swan into a wall, bring back the funny fronts!!

    I test rode the 2023 S1000XR and the 1300GS. Both superb bikes. But I bought the XR. I loved the Jekyll and Hyde character of the bike - calm and civilised low in the RPM and a beast higher up. The GS feels too good. Too polished. It does everything and in a way I felt it was taking away from the riding experience. My dealer called it a bit soulless. With the XR I have to work more. Plan more. And have the Jekyll/Hyde option. I also feel the road much better because of the lack of a telelever suspension. Much more fun for my purposes.

    Plenty of warp 10 bikes out there today but darn few warp 10 riders out there. Honestly for street use only dialing the horsepower down to 100 to 110, with more midrange punch and fewer vibes and lowering the cost about 25% would be what I would call and improvement.

    I love my current XR. I did think about trading it in for the M1000XR. Then I realized most of the extra power of that shiftcam motor is above 10k which for street use is pretty unusable.....If you plan on keeping your license and staying out of jail that is.
